Xlab Confab

Unconference and Workshops

On April 2-3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Xlab will be hosting an Unconference at Carleton University, Ottawa. The event is hybrid and will focus on “the idea of the futures of cultural heritage informatics.” Day one will begin with a workshop hosted by Dr. Ethan Watrall from Michigan State University, followed by Xlab member-led workshops on various topics and methods in Cultural Heritage Informatics. I will lead a workshop on Obsidian.md and Personal Knowledge Management.

Day two, Dr. Watrall will give a keynote address: Building the Internment Archaeology Digital Archive – A Practical Discussion of a Community Engaged Digital Heritage Project. Then the unconference will begin. What is an unconference, you may be asking. It is the best part of a regular conference. The in-between talks part. Where you mingle, grab a coffee, and informally share interests. As our fearless Xlab leader, Dr. Shawn Graham, states, “An unconference is a conference without the papers and presentations: all coffee break!”

If you wish to attend and participate in the Xlab Confab, register here! For the full agenda, click here or scan the QR Code below. We look forward to seeing you, either in person or virtually.

Funding for the XLab Confab is via Carleton’s participation in a SSHRC-funded Partnership Grant with the Computational Research in the Ancient Near East project, and a Carleton Multidisciplinary Catalyst Research Fund grant establishing the XLab.
